Ways to Take Action.

  • Cancel Subscriptions.

If you are subscribed to sites, software, recurring deliveries - anything - with a company that doesn’t support your values CANCEL IT. Companies count on your regular flow of $ -but if you can’t count on them to support your values then don’t give them your hard earned money. There are almost always alternative companies that deserve your support.

  • Travel to Blue Destinations.

There are many places that are great to visit - why not be intentional in your travel plans and only visit places and spend your $ where you know that most people share your values. Whether it is only visiting blue states - or finding blue cities in red states - choose carefully where you spend your travel budget.

  • Grow with others.

Each of us can only do so much - but we can find others doing great things and invest in them. Seek out people doing great work, supporting others and keeping us all sane. Find a way to help them grow what they are doing - either with $ or with time. Spread the love.

  • Sell Unkind Assets.

Have stocks in companies that clearly don’t support your values? When the time is right make a plan to sell those. Stocks are soaring now - because the assumption is that things will be “great for business” - but this is unlikely to last so do your best to sell high and diversify into companies and holdings that make sense for you. This is NOT investment advice - please see your advisor for that - but let them know your VALUES matter in your investments.

  • Speak up.

Its hard - especially when some are threatening to target people for their values with violence - but find ways to speak up without speaking at. Support and encourage instead of scolding and denigrating. Soft support from millions can create a wave.

  • Share the Pledge.

Tell others - whether in person or on social media not only that you have taken the Blues Values Pledge - but how you are fulfilling it - we all need ideas of how we can make an impact and you can be the inspiration for others to find a way to do more. Change takes all of us.

  • Buy Small & Local

In these times many large companies are afraid to show their values - much more so that local and small businesses. A local business also directly benefits people in your area. They may not be perfect - but just by being local its a start to a more grounded business that you needs to be responsive to you and other local people.

  • Donate your Pledge Savings

Sometimes you find that not only don’t you need that item from a provider that doesn’t share your values, you just plain don’t need what they were selling at all. In this case find a cause that supports your values and redirect some or all of those savings to them each month.
